64 channel Wave Field Array for Workshop

Wave Field Synthesis

I first experienced the spatial audio rendering technique of Wave Field Synthesis at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center in Troy, NY in July 2017 as a part of their Spatial Audio Workshop. Since that time I'd been looking for ways to further engage with Wave Field Synthesis as a composer, but the price of large-scale speaker arrays were too cost-prohibitive. In June 2022, I became aware of more afforable amplification solutions for network-connected audio devices and began the process of designing and building a 64-channel Wave Field Synthesis Array. Thanks to a grant from the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and the Mellon Foundation, I was able to fund the construction of my current 64-channel system and conduct free workshops for participants to learn how to live code in Estuary as well as spatialize the sound within the Wave Field.
